Helianthus annuus
Family: Asteraceae
An interesting purple-seeded Russian Mammoth type. Derived from an inadvertent cross with a black-seeded oil type, purple jumbos were found in a striped Russian Mammoth seed lot in New Mexico during our annual Seeds Of Change seed cleaning camp back in 1995. From a small handful we now have a vigorous, true breeding purple-seeded variety. Plants grow to 8' and make large heads with purple seeds of great eating quality. We don't let the birds get these.
