Collection: Cucumber

The availability of interesting Cucumber types these days is outstanding. Our choices range from standard dark American slicers to giant white Armenian types. Tight pickling, crunchy lemon, thin skinned Asian and English, short Persian and mini gherkins. The varietal selection is ubiquitous. Some years ago in transition, while storing our seed collection in hard plastic bins in a barn workshop area, the cucumber bin was raided by a hungry black squirrel. Left unattended The thing ate through the lid and destroyed our entire collection in a weeks time! We lost some great seed lots and have begun to rebuild inventory again. At the time some of our favorites were Satsuki Madori, Mid east prolific,(from Alan Kapuler), Lemon, Suyo Long and marketmore 76. We've got three nice lots back and will go for the others this year. Treat cucumbers like melons in the garden. Put them in fertile well drained soil in a full sun position and only use surface watering such as drip. Plant a second crop in early July for a continuous supply till frost.
