Collection: Lettuce and Greens

MASA's lettuce offering stems from multiple variety trials and vegetable production years here in the front range. Many selections came to us through my personal work and collaboration with The Seeds of Change, Peace Seeds and Wild Garden Seeds. The varieties represent all the major groups from Looseleaf to Romaine, Bib and Butter, to Minis and Frillies, Compacts to Crisp heads. A lettuce for all seasons and all salad creations.

Lettuce seed production can be marginal here. Certain types such as the new "Salinova" types and "Batavian" summer crisp struggle to even bolt to flower.  High elevation exposure, erratic temperature swings and susceptibility to the brutal ''aster yellows'' virus on their flowering tops are a big part of the environmental drawbacks.

As a result, we continue selecting seed from virus free plants in an effort to build resistance and improve overall productivity. We feel confident in these adapting varieties in both gardening and row crop regimes. Slight variations or crosses from open pollination may show up in these populations.  Enjoy the list!
