Amaranthus gangeticus
Family: Amaranthaceae
Elephant Head Amaranth is one of the most unusual and outstanding ornamentals of the annual garden. Flowers form huge tightly knit upright heads on 4' plants that stand proudly till frost. It also naturalizes by self seeding in wayside gravely areas, driveway edges etc. We obtained the seeds from this beauty back in the mid 80's from Francis Hoffman, an elder master gardener and family friend. We've grown it ever since.
