Hordeum vulgare
This is a vigorous, old, purple-tinged barley strain brought to America by a Bhaka Tulka Rinpoche from Tibet. We received a few seeds from the Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance in 2019 when we agreed to begin our heritage Wheat and Barley trials here in Boulder, Colorado. We began with 50 popular heirlooms that the active conservation organization recommended. Tibetan Rinpoche Barley quickly stood out by its vigor and beauty. It's a top heavy 6 row strain that grows to 4 feet in a wet year. Very ornamental and productive as well. A hull-less spring sown cultivar used to make the Tibetan staple cereal Tsampa. Also recommended as an ornamental for the home garden.
