Cucubita pepo
Family: Cucurbitaceae
True Gold Zucchini was born out of the curiosity and persistence of Alan Kapuler and myself during the 90's. Alan collected the first round of seeds from a front running hybrid at the time (I honestly forget the name). The following season he sowed the first round of the hybrid cultivar. The once 100% homogenious strain gave rise to a mass of different progeny. I believe at the time about 50% of the population was actually yellow and the rest were all over the place inconsistent. After rouging all the "off types" he harvested the remaining yellow fruits. He then cut open , scooped, soaked, fermented, rinsed, dried and saved the seeds. After another season of selection he sent the seeds to me at the Seeds of Change farm to grow and continue selecting. We grew and selected from mass populations for another 6 seasons and came up with a vigorous true breeding OP yellow zucchini. 20 years later we now have 2 great lines of this Gold beauty. We call it "True Gold".
