Hyssopus Officinalis
Hyssop is a shrubby herbaceous perennial in the Lamiaceae or Mint Family. Its origin stretches from Southern Europe to the Middle East in the regions surrounding the Caspian Sea. Throughout its illustrious career it gained many merits for its value as an antiseptic, cough reliever, expectorant and a number of other herbal uses. We love Hyssop in the herb garden as it is such an attractive and consistent performer - it flowers profusely and attracts pollinators like crazy. We often wonder why everyone doesn't have some in their gardens. Unlike some herbs in the Mint Family (Oregano, Rosemary, Thyme to name a few), Hyssop propagates vigorously by seed.
