Leonurus cardiaca
Motherwort is an old world herb native to Europe and the Central parts of Western Asia. With a long history of being used medicinally it gained its name from its attributes to relax pregnant women hence the name mothers plant. The species cardiaca describes its virtues as an ally to the heart. Motherwort is easy to grow, is not picky where one puts it in the garden but preferably the gardens edges. It's also versatile growing under dry or wet conditions and like most of its relatives in the Mint family it is a great pollinator attractor.
