Collection: Peppers
The Capsicums are an amazingly attractive and multi useful genus in the Solanaceae Family. Relatives to tomatoes. eggplants, tomatillos, potatoes and host of interesting culinary and mind altering plants. The Chile Pepper has traveled far and wide from its geographical origin of South and Central America. Peoples of Bolivia and Peru are considered to grow, collect and consume the widest diversity of landrace species. in the world. Another ancient 10,000 year old cultivated crop. Said to have made it to SouthEast Asia by 1500 AD almost 9000 years after cultivation is said to have begun. There's around 30 species of the illustrious ones - of which we use all of 4 here in North America ; C. annuum, C. baccatum, C. chinensis and C. frutescens. We've been knee deep in Chile fields since the early 90s where the Gila farm grew chile seed for the Seeds of Change. In 2019 we begun to resurrect old favorite varieties for our regional 'front range chile program'. 2019s focus was on hot varieties. We hope to bring back more ethnic and interesting sweets as well.
