Collection: Corn

Previous to MASA  Seed Foundation in our lineage were many close collaborators. Mostly friends and family, field workers, teachers and learners.  From 1996-2015 we ran Abbondanza Organic Seeds and Produce as a full tilt seeds and produce farming entity, before regrouping and now founding  MASA. A Mutual Admiration Seed Association. One of my closest mentors and dear friend; Alan Kapular PhD. and founder of 'Peace Seeds' a planetary gene Pool service in Corvallis, Oregon. His inspiration turned on a whole group of young gardeners back in the early 80s about the importance of looking closer at soil biology and Evolutionary seed breeding - the loss of plant diversity and that if we cared to participate - the transformation of the human food system was in our hands to change!

 Additionally we were encouraged to learn some some Botany and Taxonomy were really valuable tools for discovering plant diversity and Phylogeny.  It was an amazing time to be alive. Southern Oregon in the 80s was a happening place. People like Mushroom made it extraordinary. Well all this leads to a quick story of the Rainbow Inca Sweet Corn. Kapular AKA 'Mushroom' discovered a phenominal 12 way cross between American OP sweet corn, Amerindian multicolor starch corns, and peruvian Chokelo soft starch corn, The seeding layout was a non conventional spiral corn patch on the Peace Seeds and later Siskiyou Seeds Farm. The multicolred ear with giant kernals had expressed a dominant  sweet corn trait and self created  a solid multicolred sweet corn! All the mixed traits lined up into a Rainbow Inca Sweet Corn! Well some 38 years later the seeds have traveled the world and are being grown and maintained by many. Corn is the peoples grain of Meso and North America. We continue to grow, select and breed  heritage corns as a way to continue and improve on the wonderful lineage our ancestors brought to us. .*
